It is really difficult to describe the flood of emotions going on at the Brown's house. We began praying for Haiti about 3 years ago. The world is so big and there is such a great need for the love of Christ everywhere that the thought can be overwhelming. After some family prayer times and discussion we decided together to focus our prayers toward Haiti.
At that time we did not even know anyone in Haiti, but we just started praying in general for the missionaries there, and for God to show His mighty power to the people. The prevailing prayer was that God would show Himself to be the answer through the saving blood of Jesus Christ. After beginning to pray for Haiti, we began to research and learn more about it.
Early last year I was travelling home from work when I heard the Kings and Queens song on the radio. I had no idea this song was about Haiti! We had just finished reading Kisses from Katie and Another Man's War. Both of these books were about orphans in Africa, so I just assumed that was the location this song was describing.
I was totally blown away a few days later when I heard the "Behind the Music" on Air 1 and discovered this song was about the Hands and Feet Project in Haiti. I immediately called Amy (woke her up because it was REALLY early) and told her about it. She looked up the website and started trying to find out some info.
One of the main drawbacks to mission work for us is the size of our family and the age of our children. We were shocked when we contacted HAFP and they told us that they would love for us to come on a short term trip. We prayed about this for a few days and then decided to go for it.
Over the next few months God confirmed this call so many times as people from all over began to send their support. Several of our church family members joined us: Our pastor Kevin Steele and his daughter Grace, Morgan Whaley and his daughter Anna, and Yolanda Bennett.
The first night we were in Haiti I walked around after everyone was asleep. I looked up in the sky full of stars and asked God, "Is this home?" Over the next week I became so attached to all of the kids in the Children's Village and the Missionaries serving there. My whole family felt strongly called by God to be a part of what they were doing.
So after almost 7 months we are now officially a part! We will keep you posted as we transition from our life now to the life of full time missionaries. Please pray for us. We desire to uplift the Name of Jesus Christ and glorify Him with everything we do. We serve a mighty God and He has saved us and called us to a life of service. HAFP has set up a page for us here.
Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
